Young Canada Week

Welcome PeeWees!

On behalf of the Goderich Lions Club, the Goderich Minor Hockey Association and the Young Canada Week Committee, we would like to extend to you and your PeeWee Team an invitation to participate in our 66th annual YOUNG CANADA WEEK scheduled for March 13th to March 15th, 2015 and March 20th to March 22nd, 2015.  There will be no games played from Monday to Thursday during March break.  Your team will play one weekend or the other but not both. 

We will be using the Maitland Recreation Centre on Suncoast Drive, as well as the Goderich Memorial Arena on McDonald Street.

The following conditions shall apply:
  • Any boy/girl born on or after January 1, 2002 is eligible provided he/she has been approved by the team entered.
  • All teams entered in the tournament MUST be affiliated with the O.H.F., the A.H.A. for all American teams and the OWHA for all girls teams.
  • An approved player card, and/roster sheet, complete with signatures, issued by the above mentioned governing bodies, MUST be presented at your first game.
  • The tournament shall consist of nine (9) divisions, each division determined according to classification.  See 'General Information' tab for more details.

To the YOUNG CANADA WEEK Committee

I was the captain of Ted's Pals 1955 Goderich Dominion of Canada Champions. I returned in the Mid 70’s and we won the consolation division with my son Eric. We will never forget the message on the gondola in the arena “When the one great scorer....” it is a motto in sports to live by and I have tried. Terry Clancy (son of King Clancy) was my defensive partner in 1955. My grandmother was from Listowel, Ont. and also was very involved with supporting and sponsoring team such as Future Aces with Herb Carnegie. Ted’s Pals also had Toronto’s first all Negro line. Mr. Carnegie’s son was on that line. My father Jack Abel and Herb Carnegie were very close. Read More

The Goderich Lions Club is proud to host the 66Th Annual Young Canada Week Pee Wee hockey tournament.  Since its inception back in 1950, the main intention of the tournament was to provide a venue for kids to come to Goderich and safely enjoy the great game of hockey.  This continues to be the main goal of the tournament.  

Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that some coaches, parents and spectators are not sharing this goal with us.  We recognize that winning is an objective of team sports.  However, the main goal is to let the kids safely play hockey.  No child should fear being targeted by another team to the point that he or she does not want to participate.
