The Goderich Lions Club is proud to host
the 66Th Annual Young Canada Week Pee Wee hockey tournament. Since its inception back in 1950, the main
intention of the tournament was to provide a venue for kids to come to Goderich
and safely enjoy the great game of hockey.
This continues to be the main goal of the tournament.
Unfortunately, it has come to our attention
that some
coaches, parents and spectators are not sharing this goal with
us. We recognize that winning is an
objective of team sports. However, the
main goal is to let the kids safely play hockey. No child should fear being targeted by
another team to the point that he or she does not want to participate.
We also recognize there are situations where we do not agree with the call on the ice. We can assure you that all our referees are certified either by the OMHA or the OWHA and, as such, bring with them the rules and integrity of the game. Through our referee-in-chief, we will do our best to provide the highest quality refereeing possible.
We will do our part to ensure the kids come first! We ask that all coaches, parents and spectators in general conduct themselves appropriately.
This week is for the kids to safely enjoy the great game of hockey. Let’s let them have their fun.
Thank you.
